Rules - Gameplay

GAMEPLAY
  • The game will start at 6 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009.

  • You must be living in the University Park and the nearby surrounding State College area.

  • After this time, you may assassinate (or be assassinated) at ANY time in ANY place other than universally sanctioned “safe” zones.

  • The game will end when only one assassin remains.

  • Target assignments will be given out the Monday before the game starts. Assignments will be made through text message or email, not through physical distribution.

  • Access to the group roster will be restricted. Therefore, no one except the Assassins Coordinator, you, and whoever has you as a target will know if you are playing Assassins.

  • You may keep your nerf weapon hidden and you do not need to tell any other players that you are playing.

  • In order to kill your target, you must hit them with a dart shot from a Nerf gun (or equivalent, darts that are thrown or dropped don’t count), a Nerf/soft foam sword, or a balled up pair of socks.

  • Sock weapons cannot contain any other materials that may alter weight distribution or damage (quarters, soap, etc.)

  • Hitting with the actual Nerf gun is not allowed (i.e. pistol whipping). Hitting with any hard objects (such as plastic/wooden/metal swords) is not allowed.

  • Ricochets do not count.

  • You may block a dart with anything. Clothing (including jackets, shoes, hats, etc.) being worn by the person counts as part of your body. Hitting anything a target is carrying (bookbag, purse, books, nerf weapon, etc.) does not count

  • A target CANNOT be forcibly restrained or physically held by a third party for the purpose of making an assassination. However, psychological warfare involving any number of parties is welcome. Also, you may assist an ally in making a kill, but you cannot at any point make physical contact with the target (you can’t touch the target with anything, but you’re allowed to watch them and tell your ally where they are, etc.).

  • A player CANNOT forcibly restrain or physically touch another player for the purpose of allowing a target to escape. They can aid them in any other way (such as providing a place to hide, or intercepting a dart) that does not involve physical contact with the potential assassin. This rule also applies to people who are not playing the game.

  • If you assassinate your target, you now have his or her target. The game is structured like a giant circle (person A has person B, B has C… Z has A), so the circle of people will just get smaller and smaller until one person remains

  • You may not use illegal methods to infiltrate a building or residential area. Climbing in through windows when a door is locked is not allowed (however, darts shot through windows do count, keeping in mind that richochets do not count).

  • Forcing open any doors that are securely locked is not allowed. When making kills in a target’s place of residence, opening a closed door is NOT allowed. You must either be invited in, or the door must be open already. Although it is technically University policy that non-residents cannot enter dorms without an escort, this is not a rule that applies to the game of Assassins. It’s up to you to avoid getting caught, and if you do, you’re on your own. Use common sense please.

  • Illegal activity (such as the vandalization of property) is not acceptable

  • If someone is inactive (doesn’t make any kills and is nowhere to be found by anyone; you cannot be labeled as inactive if other people playing the game still see you around, and inactive status is assigned at the discretion of the Assassins Coordinator) for one week after receiving their target, they will be placed on a special hit list. People on this list are fair game for anyone to kill. If you manage to kill someone on the list, you do not take his/her target. Instead, the killer will inform the Assassins Coordinator, who will inform the person who formerly had the inactive player as their target. There is no reward for killing someone on the list (unless you count feeling like a badass as a reward). The purpose of this rule is to prevent any extremely lengthy holdups in the game because one of the players simply can't be found.

  • The Assassins Coordinator will post updates on http://psaoassassins.blogspot.com, letting all participants know who has been assassinated. He/she will NOT say who the assassin was, however, in order to maintain that assassin’s anonymity. He/she is also not allowed to reveal how many kills any given individual has made or the location of the kill.

  • Kills made in violation of any of these rules are considered invalid. If you believe that any of these rules have been violated, do not tell your assassin your target until after you speak with the Assassins Coordinator.

  • The Assassins Coordinator cannot assist any player in any way. This includes giving out any sort of non-publicly distributed information related to the game. The Assassins Coordinator also reserves the right to introduce new rules to deal with discrepancies/inconsistencies brought to his or her attention by any of the players.

  • PSAO and the Assassin's Coordinator are not liable for any injuries or damages that may result from playing the game. Be smart and play a safe game.
